Source:2014-09-29

Georgia has officially declared participate in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. On May 2, Georgia Olympic Committee voted on this issue, and all of the 46 members voted for this decision.

A war broke out on August 8, 2008 between Georgia and Russia, and then the diplomatic relation was broke off, which has not been recovered until now. Tbilisi called Moscow the “invader”, and Russian troops stationed in Abkhazia and South Ossetia the “invading army”. The leadership of Georgia has repeatedly called for a boycott of Sochi Winter Olympics, and has even applied to the International Olympic Committee for changing the location of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

The situation has been changed since Bidzina Ivanishvili was elected as the Prime Minister. Currently, Mikhail Saakashvili is still the Georgian President, but his influence has gone down. Ivanishvili said after the election that Georgia should send athletes to Sochi. It is a crucial task to take the site inspection of sports events. The events that will be held in May include the king of the ocean - open water swimming competition in Copacabana Beach and the Fencing World Cup in Botanical Garden. Rio Olympic Committee will also conduct the site inspection of the two sports events.
