The themed touring exhibition on the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games opens in Yushu, Qinghai

On September 4, 2023, the touring exhibition on the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games (Yushu Leg), supported by BODA and jointly organized by Beijing Olympic City Development Center, the Office of Beijing Municipal Leading Group for Cooperation and Assistance, the Office’s Qinghai Command Center and Yushu Municipal Bureau of Culture, Sports, Tourism, Radio, Film and Television, was unveiled at Yushu Tourist Center. Speakers at the opening ceremony included Ji Chuanpai, member of the Party Leadership Group and deputy director of Beijing Olympic City Development Center; Zhou Jian, Level II Bureau Rank Official of the Office of Beijing Municipal Leading Group for Cooperation and Assistance; Ma Chaoying, member of the Party Committee and deputy head of the Yushu Command Center of the Office of Beijing Municipal Leading Group for Cooperation and Assistance, deputy secretary general of Yushu Prefecture Party Committee and Government; and Huang Weizhong, deputy secretary general of Yushu Prefecture Government. Among the audience was Li Yuhai, secretary of the Party Committee and chief of the Yushu Command Center of the Office of Beijing Municipal Leading Group for Cooperation and Assistance, and Angwen Cairen, secretary of the Party Leadership Group and director of Yushu Bureau of Culture, Sports, Tourism, Radio, Film and Television. In his speech, Ji Chuanpai pointed out that this large-scale exhibition featured pictures, texts and physical objects, aimed to vigorously publicize and carry forward the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games, further strengthen the sense of patriotism among the people of all ethnic groups, and reinforce the sense of the Chinese nation as one community. It was an important part of Beijing’s paired-up assistance work. Using pictures and physical objects, it systematically displayed the style, wisdom and strength of China embodied in the spirit of the Games. It was held successively in Hotan of Xinjiang, Yushu of Qinghai and Lhasa of Tibet, three recipients of Beijing’s paired-up assistance. For this leg in Yushu, some local elementary and middle school students were invited to serve as volunteer expositors of the exhibition. At the same time, ambassadors of the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games from Beijing would visit primary and secondary schools in Yushu to raise the students’ awareness of the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games. He believed that the exhibition would inspire the people of Yushu to forge ahead into a new era and write a new chapter in the pursuit of Chinese modernization.

In his speech, Zhou Jian said that the touring exhibition (Yushu leg) was a concrete practice of meeting the requirement to fully, accurately implement the Party Central Committee’s policy on Tibet administration on all fronts into Beijing’s assistance to Qinghai. It was an important measure for Beijing and Yushu to further expand exchanges and integration, and strengthen cultural exchanges and mutual learning. He hoped that this exhibition would help build a platform for ethnic integration, and reinforce the sense of the Chinese nation as one community. He hoped that while promoting the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games, Yushu would carry out targeted patriotism education among young people, build a national spiritual home, and further promote the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games. He also hoped to sum up and promote the good practices in ethnic exchanges and integration, align the popularization of the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Game among young people with the strengthening of ethnic unity, develop the brand project for promoting ethnic unity, strengthen the shared national and cultural identity among people of all ethnic groups, the commitment to socialism with Chinese characteristics, and identify more closely with the motherland and the Party.

Ma Chaoying pointed out in his speech that this event was a practice of thoroughly implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions on the Olympic legacy work, vigorously carrying forward the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games, and reinforcing the sense of the Chinese nation as one community. It was of positive significance to inspire the officials and general public in Yushu, especially the young people, to serve the country, have ambitious dreams, and strive to build a healthy, modern and happy Yushu. On the platform provided by this touring exhibition, Yushu could show its unique natural landscape and tourist attractions to the outside world, to enhance public awareness and its popularity, move faster to become the first choice of international eco-tourism destinations, and push the Beijing-Yushu friendship to a new height.

In his speech, Huang Weizhong said that by hosting this touring exhibition in Yushu, the organizers hoped to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions, support the healthy growth of young people in Yushu, and reinforce the sense of the Chinese nation as one community. It would surely further Beijing-Yushu relationship, and strengthen their exchanges. In the next step, people of all ethnic groups in Yushu, especially the teachers and students, would be organized to visit the exhibition. Meanwhile, the courseware about the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games would be promoted on campus in a solid manner, with the attempt to let the people of all ethnic groups, especially the youth, learn to appreciate the strength of the motherland, the power of role models, and the glory of dreams.

At the opening ceremony, Cairen Cuomao a student volunteer from Yushu No.5 Minzu Elementary School, made a wonderful speech and shared her personal experience in the Winter Olympic Dream Camp hosted in commemoration of the first anniversary of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. She hoped that her peers in Yushu would draw strong inspiration from the exhibition as she did, bear in mind the big picture, be confident and open, rise to the challenges, pursue excellence, create a better future together, and contribute to the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.

At the opening ceremony, the Beijing Olympic City Development Center presented to the Yushu Prefecture Government the Photo Albums of Olympic City Forever and Winter Olympic Cities, as well as the courseware on the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games.

The students of Yushu No.5 Minzu Elementary School donated to the Beijing Olympic Museum their handmade works “The Olympic Rings,” which symbolize the inheritance and development of the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games, and a yak tent model they made as a symbol of the bond between the people of Beijing and Yushu and their aspiration to jointly build a beautiful home.

This exhibition was divided into four sections: “Glories,” “Course,” “Struggle” and “Achievements.” It displayed more than 300 selected pictures and objects to systematically review the bidding, preparing and hosting of the Beijing 2022 Games, and showcasing the spirit of the Games. As a side event, the organizers invited a world skiing champion, a Para champion and torchbearer, and other participants of the Beijing 2022 Games to the elementary School to share their ideas about the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games, and inspire the young students to improve themselves, serve the country, and set the goal of making the country better and stronger. Ten students of Yushu No.5 Minzu Elementary School who participated in the Winter Olympic Dream Camp held in commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games would serve as volunteer expositors for the exhibition, to tell the audience wonderful stories about the Games. For the next two months, this travelling exhibition will open free of charge to the public in Yushu, and serve as a themed education base for local authorities. The touring exhibition was staged in Hotan, Xinjiang, in April and lasted for five months. In addition to Yushu, the exhibition will visit Lhasa, Tibet on September 20.
