From the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway to the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Railway, Chinese railways have developed for 110 years. In 1909, Zhan Tianyou, the "father of Chinese railways," presided over the construction of the first railway designed and constructed by the Chinese themselves—the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway. In 2019, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed rail opened to traffic. Nowadays, the old and new Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway traversed the long river of history, spanned a hundred years, and "met" each other in the Winter Olympics era.
The Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed rail line is 174 kilometers long and has 10 stations including Beijing North, Qinghe, Badaling Great Wall, Huailai and Zhangjiakou. The Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed rail intelligent EMU adopts the Beidou satellite navigation system independently developed by China for the first time, becoming the world's first train capable of auto-driving at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour, achieving intelligent upgrades in driving, service, and operation and maintenance. The Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed rail both serves the Winter Olympics and benefits the people. Nowadays, the train from Beijing to Zhangjiakou has been shortened from 3 hours and 7 minutes in the past to 47 minutes today.
From the breakthroughs in independent design and construction to the world's most advanced railway system, from 35 kilometers per hour to 350 kilometers per hour, the century-old Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway has witnessed the development of China's railways and the leap of China's comprehensive national strength. In the future, it will also witness the realization of China's centennial Olympic dream and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
