Wang Beixing, a Chinese speed skating world champion and former speed skating manager at the Sports Department of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Organising Committee, served as a distinguished instructor at the National Speed Skating Oval. She gave a lively and engaging skating class to the participating teachers and students. At the beginning of the class, she explained the basics of skating and safety skills and demonstrated how to wear protective gear properly. During the practice session, she implemented differentiated teaching for students with different skill levels. She guided beginners through sliding training and helped them ease the tension. For students with some experience, she carefully corrected their movements to further improve their skills.

After the end of the study tour, the students remarked that they experienced first-hand the cutting-edge technology empowering the ice surface of the National Speed Skating Oval, also known as “the fastest ice”. They learned a lot from the instructor Wang Beixing and felt Olympic medallists’ passion for sports and their professionalism and rigour. At the Beijing Olympic Museum, they admired the exhibits from the two Olympic Games held in Beijing and learned about the stories of Olympic medallists, enabling them to resonate strongly with the sport and cultural charm of the Olympic culture. The students described the event as truly rewarding and said that in the future, they will do their best to help promote the Olympic culture, support the building of a healthy China, and grow into a new generation of capable young people with sound moral grounding, intellectual ability, physical vigour, aesthetic sensibility and work skills.
Wang Beixing said that the study tour at the National Speed Skating Oval and the Beijing Olympic Museum allowed the participants to perceive history and experience first-hand the Olympic spirit, which is no longer an abstract concept but translates into a tangible power for their growth. She believes that such experience will be great for the children’s growth. “When the children resonate with history on the winter Olympic track and get inspired and motivated from the champions’ stories, this is a vivid example of turning Olympic legacy into educational resources.”

The 2025 Youth Olympic Education Study Programme is co-hosted by the Beijing Olympic City Development Association and the Beijing Municipal Education Commission and organised by the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, with the support of the Beijing Olympic Museum, the National Stadium and the National Speed Skating Oval. This event is one of the 11 sessions of the Programme throughout the year, and is a vivid example of how Olympic education is carried out at the National Speed Skating Oval, an invaluable Olympic legacy. The following sessions will welcome the participation of more than 2,000 teachers and students from Beijing Olympic Education Model Schools and 17 schools in Zhangjiakou.
