2025 Youth Olympic Summer Camp opens in Zhangjiakou Olympic Village

On 5 July, the opening ceremony of the 2025 Youth Olympic Summer Camp was held at the Zhangjiakou Olympic Village’s Climbing Gym. This event is co-hosted by the Beijing Olympic City Development Association (BODA) and the Beijing Municipal Education Commission and organised by the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, with the support of the Zhangjiakou Municipal Bureau of Sports, Zhangjiakou Olympic Village, the National Ski Jumping Centre, the National Biathlon Centre, Thaiwoo Ski Resort & Alpine Park, the Chongli Overseas Chinese Ice and Snow Museum and the Taizicheng Heritage Park. Xia Rihong, Deputy Secretary-General of BODA and Deputy Director-General of the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, Liu Ying, Director of the Project Department of the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, Qian Jinjun, Level I Division Rank Official at the Sports, Health and Art Education Department of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, attended the opening ceremony. They were joined by Guo Lina, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Zhangjiakou Municipal Bureau of Sports, Wang Jinmei, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director-General of the Zhangjiakou Municipal Bureau of Sports, as well as the participating students and teachers from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei.

Xia Rihong said in his speech that Beijing and Zhangjiakou co-hosted a truly exceptional Olympic Games in 2022, leaving a wealth of Olympic legacy for Zhangjiakou. During this year’s summer camp, students from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei will take a tour of the Olympic venues in Zhangjiakou to experience the charm of the Olympic legacy and culture. He encouraged the students to actively participate in sport and cultural activities of the summer camp, including Olympic sports, brain games, team building activities and outdoor activities. They are expected to acquire knowledge about the two Olympic Games held in Beijing and get hands-on experience with intangible cultural heritage. By doing so, they can truly understand and resonate with the Olympic spirit and be more motivated to compete and win.

At the opening ceremony, student representatives recited Ode to Sport, and school representatives were gifted the Exploring Beijing 2022 Games book series. Xia Rihong, Qian Jinjun and Guo Lina presented the flag of the Youth Olympic Summer Camp to the school representatives.

It is learned that the five-day summer camp features a variety of sport activities such as hiking, tug-of-war, laser shooting, archery, cross-country roller skating, dryland curling and flag football. There are also diverse cultural events, for example, Olympic-themed film screening, intangible cultural heritage display and experience activities, Olympic knowledge lectures and visits to Olympic venues. About 300 students from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei will visit the National Ski Jumping Centre, the National Biathlon Centre, Thaiwoo Ski Resort & Alpine Park, the Chongli Overseas Chinese Ice and Snow Museum and the Taizicheng Heritage Park to trace the Olympic journey for a shared future.
