On 26 September, 80 para-athletes took part in a series of activities aimed at promoting the Paralympic sports culture at the Beijing Olympic Museum. These activities provided them with an opportunity to experience firsthand the dual Olympic culture and encouraged them to carry forward the Olympic spirit. The immersive exhibition deeply impressed upon them the glory of the Olympic legacy and the charm of Beijing, the first city and the only city in the world that has hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympics.

Themed “Dual Olympic City: Together for a Better Future,” the museum’s permanent exhibition is composed of three parts, namely, “Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022,” “Memories of the Olympic Games Beijing 2008” and “Beijing, the Dual Olympic City.” Through diverse forms such as scene replicas, multimedia models and displays without protective enclosures, the exhibition revisits the unforgettable moments of the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games and the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Guided by the docent, the para-athletes followed the exhibition route, listening to the commentary and closely examining each exhibit. They paused from time to time to check the descriptions and interact with one another. The exhibits about the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics and the Beijing 2008 Summer Paralympics attracted their particular attention. They greatly related to the importance of delivering a “high-standard Olympic Games with distinctive features” and “Two Games of Equal splendour.” As part of the Chinese delegation, they secured 18 gold medals, 20 silver medals and 23 bronze medals at the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics, and were proud of ranking first on the gold medal table and the overall medal table at the Winter Paralympics for the first time in history. The athletes promised to further disseminate the Paralympic values of Courage, Determination, Inspiration and Equality, and strive to win even greater honour for the country and the people.

Co-hosted by the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, the China Administration of Sports for Persons with Disabilities and the Beijing Disabled Persons’ Federation, the Paralympic Sports Culture Promotion Series is an important part of the 16th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival. Featuring exhibitions, the Paralympic Spirit Lecture and knowledge presentation, it aims to promote cultural exchanges and integration between people with and without disabilities. This year, BODA participated in the 6th Beijing Mass Sports Meeting for People with Disabilities and held sports film screenings at the Beijing Demonstration Center of Service for Persons with Disabilities. All these efforts achieved great results.
It is learned that BODA will produce a Paralympic-themed promotional video that highlights the charm of Paralympic sports and the inspiring journey of para-athletes through in-depth interviews with athletes, about competition and training documentaries and a Paralympic history exhibition. In the future, BODA will continue working with the China Administration of Sports for Persons with Disabilities and the Beijing Disabled Persons’ Federation to promote the Paralympic sports culture, carry forward the spirit of Beijing 2008 and Beijing 2022, spread the dual Olympic culture, promote cultural exchanges and integration between people with and without disabilities, and enhance para-athletes’ sense of social participation, fulfillment and happiness.
