Co-hosted by the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre and Beijing Shougang Fund Co., Ltd. and organised by Beijing Aocheng Operations Management Co., Ltd., the “Spirit of Beijing 2022” themed exhibition and the Winter Olympics Plaza Family Carnival opened in Shougang Park on 29 September.

Wang Cheng, Head of the Communications Department of the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, noted that Shougang Park is a key landmark featuring unique industrial memories and Olympic vibes in Beijing, the first and the only city in the world that has hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympics. Holding the exhibition and the carnival in Shougang Park is a concrete measure to revitalise and utilise the Olympic legacy. Moreover, it integrates and preserves both industrial heritage and the Olympic spirit, and further promotes the spirit of Beijing 2022. The exhibition revolves around the five elements of the spirit of Beijing 2022 (to bear in mind the big picture, be confident and open, rise to challenges, pursue excellence and create a better future together), featuring treasured photos taken from the bidding and preparation to the staging of the Games.

Zhou Yingchun, Deputy Party Secretary and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Beijing Shougang Funds Co., Ltd., said in his opening remarks that this event is a vivid example of Shougang Park telling the story of the Olympic Winter Games. The “Spirit of Beijing 2022” themed exhibition presents the rich connotation of the spirit of Beijing 2022. It reviews the remarkable journey of the Beijing 2022 Games and resonates with the ethos of Shougang. Through this exhibition, visitors are expected to better understand the path from Olympic glory to industrial innovation. In addition to the themed exhibition, visitors can also interact with robots, participate in the technology workshop and visit the cultural marketplace to experience first-hand the distinctive industrial heritage, profound Olympic vibes and vibrant tech scene of Shougang Park.

The exhibition is taking place on the north side of the main passage near the South Six Silos (Nan Liu Tong) area of Shougang Park. There is also a “Dual Olympics” themed iconic location where visitors can stand on the replica podium of the Beijing 2022 Games and take a photo with the Olympic torch, just like an Olympic champion. The Family Carnival will feature six activities during the period of the exhibition. A ceramic art exhibition will be held at the Yangmei Wushe Culture and Art Gallery. On the 7th floor of South Six Silos, visitors can enjoy professional health services provided by the Olympic champions’ rehabilitation team. On Liaocang Street, there will be captivating dry ice bubble shows and robot performances. Inside No. 6 Silo of North Seven Silos, a lineup of humanoid robots will perform live for visitors. In No. 2 Silo of North Seven Silos, a humanoid robot soccer tournament featuring nine matches over three days will take place. The South Six Silo area will host a trendy culture brand marketplace. Additionally, a family sightseeing train will operate within the park, transporting visitors directly to various themed events. The event will last till 5 October.

According to the hosts, this event is an important part of the Dual Olympic Culture Promotion Series of the 16th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival. After the Beijing 2022 Games, the Beijing 2022 Office in Shougang Park was renamed Winter Olympics Plaza. Active efforts have been made to improve the management and use of the Olympic legacy and empower the high-quality development of Shougang Park, which accords with the purpose of BODA. This event is the product of collaboration between the two sides to preserve and utilise the Olympic legacy and carry forward the spirit of Beijing 2022. The event coincides with the National Day holiday and the Mid-Autumn Festival, adding Olympic elements to Shougang Park, which helps make it a new landmark in building Beijing into a global consumption centre. The two sides are planning to make the “Spirit of Beijing 2022” themed exhibition a permanent exhibition in Shougang Park, so the Winter Olympics Plaza will play a greater role in carrying forward the spirit of Beijing 2022.
