Olympic in Sports Films: The 22nd Beijing International Sports Film Week opens

In 2026, the Winter Olympic flame passed from Beijing to Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. On the field of play, athletes compete and push their limits, embodying the essence of sportsmanship. Outside, more and more people take to running tracks, pitches for ball games, or ski slopes, discovering their own rhythm and state of being through sport.  When the passion for sport meets cinematic storytelling, the thrill of competition sustains and the spirit of sport is passed on. Perhaps the most enduring tribute to Olympism is found in films.

Launch Event of Call for Entries & Opening Panel: when the Olympic torch passes from Beijing to Milan

As the Olympic torch passed from Beijing to Milan, what flows between the two cities is not only the passion of sporting competition but also the shared memories preserved and passed on through films. As the kick-off session of the annual sports film event, the opening ceremony will not only formally announce the call for entries for the 22nd Beijing International Sports Film Week, but also, building on longterm cooperation with the Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs (FICTS) in Italy, bring together Qi Guangpu, Yu Jianhong, Wang Fangfang, Li Tingwei, Chang Lei and other representatives of the Beijing Winter Olympics, sports personalities, and film and television creators. Centred on the theme “The Dual Olympic City and a New Chapter of the Winter Olympics”, they will share stories and memories behind Winter Olympic films, discuss the heritage of Winter Olympic culture as it passes from Beijing to Milano, and introduce case studies from other Olympic host cities to explore diverse paths for transforming Olympic legacies through cinematic expression and urban culture.

At the panel “Breaking Boundaries and Building Empathy—New Explorations in Film Genres amid the Wave of Sports for All,” Hu Yadan, Song Fangjin, Yu Baimei, Yan Qiang, and Zhang Qing will share their own experiences to decode the emotional language of sports films. Amid the wave of sports for all, how can sports films break boundaries? How can they reach and resonate with a wider audience? These are among the most pressing questions for today’s sports film and TV production.
