In his speech, Fan Di’an stated that from the motto “One World, One Dream” for the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics to “Together for a Shared Future” for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, the two Olympic Games have not only left us with splendid chapters in the history of Chinese sports but also created countless incredible moments. This exhibition features artworks capturing the fierce competition on the field, the warmth off the field, the ingenuity within the venues and the changes in the city. These artworks bear the glory of the “dual Olympic city” and embody the artists’ reflections on the two Olympic Games, their interpretations of China’s sporting spirit and the spirit of Beijing 2022, and also celebrate the charm of sports, that is, the beauty of strength, speed and rhythm as well as the beauty of hard work, solidarity and dreams. The exhibition demonstrates the vigour and tenacity of the Chinese people, presents the epic journey of Chinese sports, and is a call to action for building a country strong in sports and a healthy China.

On behalf of the hosts, Ma Xinming said that the exhibition represents a concrete measure to implement President Xi Jinping’s important instructions on building a country strong in culture and sports. It is a practical action to “incorporate artistic elements in the Beijing Olympic Centre as required by the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, and also a vivid example of promoting the Olympic spirit through arts and empowering the high-quality development of the capital city. He hoped that this exhibition would present a great opportunity to carry forward the Olympic culture, promote the Olympic spirit and public aesthetic education, empower the integrated development of culture and tourism, attract more visitors to the Beijing Olympic Centre and stimulate cultural and tourism consumption in surrounding areas. The exhibition is expected to promote industrial integration and innovation, provide new momentum and paths for the high-quality development of Beijing’s cultural sector, spur artistic innovation, and propel exploration in integrating arts with other fields to create more outstanding artworks in the new era. It also aims to advance international exchanges and interactions, tell China’s story to the world through sports and arts, and help make “dual Olympic city” a well-recognized cultural brand.
